Lyon College Creative Writing Residency 2008 Visiting Fellowship in Creative Writing of Creative Nonfiction

Complete Application Guidelines

Lyon College, Batesville, Arkansas, a highly selective four-year liberal arts college, seeks a distinguished writer of creative nonfiction for its 3rd biennial Visiting Fellowship in Creative Writing, a six-week residency scheduled during the spring 2008 semester (exact dates negotiable). While the fellowship is considered mainly an opportunity for the writer to spend time on his or her own work, he or she will also give a public reading and lecture, conduct a one-day writing workshop (community oriented), and teach an advanced creative nonfiction-writing workshop (6 weekly 3-hour sessions). An honorarium of $5,000 plus campus housing and meals are provided, as well as a travel stipend of up to $350 for round-trip transportation to and from Batesville.

To qualify for the appointment, the ideal candidate should have (1) an MFA or MA degree (not necessarily in creative writing), (2) significant publication in prestigious literary journals or magazines, (3) at least one book of creative nonfiction published (by the time of the fellowship), and (4) appropriate teaching experience. Candidates without all of these credentials who believe they are nevertheless qualified should also apply.

Send a letter of application stating specific interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, supporting materials (book(s) and/or photocopies of published creative nonfiction), a self-addressed-stamped envelope large enough for the return of supporting materials (if return is desired), and two letters of recommendation to Visiting Fellowship in Creative Writing, Lyon College, P. O. Box 2317, Batesville, AR 72503. Application postmark deadline: May 15, 2007. The appointment will be announced on the college’s website, www.lyon.edu on or before September 15, 2007.
