(Ventura, CA – March 21, 2011) After being moved out of two Borders locations as each closed, the Ventura County Writers Club has found a new home in the Pleasant Valley Senior Center in Camarillo, CA. Located inside the Community Center Park at 1605 Burnley, corner of Burnley and Carmen Drive, the Senior Center is the last building as one drives into the parking lot.
“This has been a harrowing adventure as the club makes its third move in less than 4 months,” stated Lee Wade, Club President and primary new location spotter. ” We have looked at many locations and used a new site last month in Thousand Oaks, but were unable to use it for April.  The Senior Center will be available to VCWC for many months and we hope to stay here for a long time.”

Since April is National Poetry Month, the Ventura County Writers Club will celebrate local poets and the winners of the club’s annual poetry contest at their meeting on April 12th.  Maxine Landis, a local poet with nine chapbooks and a new book, Wildflowers and Weeds, just published, will be the guest speaker. She will discuss the various styles and forms of poetry and give some illustrations of styles.

Opening the evening will be the announcement and presentation of the winners of the 10th Annual VCWC Poetry Contest.  There are three categories: Adults, Youth 12 to 18 and Youth under 12.  Winners will be given cash prizes and will read their winning poems at the meeting. Over 300 entries were received and poet Kate Buckley has selected the final winners.

The meetings begin promptly at 7 PM. The public is welcomed to all meetings, which are free. Directions to Pleasant Valley Senior Center: Take the Carmen Drive exit in Camarillo off the 101 Freeway and go north on Carmen to Burnley Drive, about _ mile.  Turn right and enter the parking lot using the second driveway on the left side of the street.  Park near the last building with Senior Center on the front and enter there.
