Call for Submissions Sixth Annual Dialogue Only Writing Contest

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS–beginning June 1, 2014 Bartleby Snopes Literary Magazine welcomes the opportunity to read your fiction. We will hold our Sixth Annual Dialogue Only Writing Contest beginning June 1, 2014. All initial submissions up to 2,000 words must be received by September 15th, 2014. Winners will be announced by October 19th, 2014. As always, our contest information will post with New Pages and Poets & Writers, as well as on the Bartleby Snopes web page. Judges: All finalists will be chosen by the Staff of Bartleby Snopes. Five finalists will be submitted to the final round of voting. The order of winners will be determined by the staff of Bartleby Snopes and our two guest judges. This year we are pleased to have last year’s winner Ronald Friedman and author Ben Tanzer (Orphans and Lost in Space) as our guest judges. All decisions regarding contest winners are final. Prizes: A minimum of $500 will be awarded, with at least $300 going to the grand prize winner. Our five finalists will also appear in Issue 13 of the magazine due out in January 2015. Last year we awarded $945 in prize money. For every entry over 50, an additional $5 will be added to the total prize money. 2014 Prize Structure: 1st Prize: $300 minimum + $3 for every entry over 50 2nd Prize: $100 minimum + $1 for every entry over 50 3rd Prize: $50 minimum + $1 for every two entries over 50 4th Prize: $30 minimum + $1 for every 4 entries over 50 5th Prize: $20 minimum + $1 for every 4 entries over 50 Entry Fee: $10 for unlimited entries (only one entry allowed at a time; see Response/Notification section for more details). Entry fee is due at time of submission and will be collected through Submittable. Be sure to read our dialogue writing tips for advice on crafting your entry. You can also read our past winners while you’re there. Bartleby Snopes was named one of Flavorwire’s “Top Ten Online Literary Magazines You Should Be Reading”. The First Annual Authors First Writing Contest

For the novel contest, entrants can submit a work of 40,000 words or longer. There is no limit on the genre – the author just has to show a passion for writing on the page. The work cannot have been previously published anywhere. The winner will receive a publishing contract from The Story Plant, $5000, and an iPad mini loaded with a year’s worth of Story Plant books. Five runners-up will receive an iPad mini loaded with a year’s worth of Story Plant books. Deadline:  September 30, 2014 at 11:59 PM EST For the short story contest, entrants can submit a work of 20,000 words or less. The same stipulations apply – there is no limit on genre or topic, just demonstrate a passion for writing on the page. CALL FOR ENTRIES: 2015 BlueCat Screenplay Competition

Since 1998, the BlueCat Screenplay Competition has provided a community for the unknown screenwriter to develop their work, giving undiscovered talent a path to professional success. BlueCat accepts both feature length and short screenplays, and in keeping with our longstanding tradition, every screenplay will receive one written analysis, with our best screenplays receiving over $40,000 in cash prizes. All submissions received by June 15th, 2014 will receive their written analysis by July 1st, 2014. Students will be eligible to submit their short screenplay at a special rate of $35. The Sundance Channel recently bought Aaron’s TV pilot, “The Descendents”, making it their second scripted show after “Rectify.” Ashleigh Powell sold her script, “SomaCell”, to Warner Brothers, with David Goyer attached to produce. “SomaCell”, along with “Rodham”, were two 2012 Blacklist Scripts written by BlueCat Alumni.
