2007 Contest Guidelines:

SLS is pleased to announce that its 2007 contest will again be held in affiliation with The Walrus magazine. Despite its relative youth, The Walrus is Canada’s foremost literary publication todayand one of the largestt and most interesting in North America.

The authors of the winning poem and prose entries will receive airfare, accommodations, and a full tuition waiver to the 2006 Summer Literary Seminars program in St. Petersburg, Russia, AND publication of the winning entry in The Walrus. Second place receives a full tuition waiver to SLS 2006, and third place receives a substantial tuition scholarship. Other entrants will be offered Select Scholarships as well, at the discretion of SLS, based on the strength of their work. T The complete guidelines for the 2007 contests are as follows:

One story or novel excerpt, maximum 25 pages (double-spaced, 10-12pt font) per entry.

No more than three poems per entry.

Only previously unpublished work can be submitted.

Include a $10 reading fee for each entry. This fee should be in US Dollars. Multiple entries are permissible and may be included in a single envelope as long as separate reading fees are also included. Checks should be made out to Summer Literary Seminars, Inc.

Include your complete contact information (address, telephone, email address) on the manuscript. Entrants should know that the contest is not judged blind. Every year we get queries about this fact; however we feel that our well-checked and balanced judging format, which includes SLS readers, The Walrus readers, and final judges, effectively eliminates the likelihood of any one reader’s affecting an entrant’s place in the final results of the contest.

All entrants will be notified of the winners in the spring by email.

Do NOT include a SASE. Cover letters are not required.

Previous First Place winners may not re-enter.

Postmark deadline: February 28, 2007.
