The River City Writing Awards in FICTION and POETRY

Fiction:
First Prize: $1,500 Second and Third Prizes: Publication and one year subscription CONTEST RULES
1. Any previously unpublished short story of up to 7,500 words is eligible. Simultaneous submissions are NOT permitted.
2. All manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, and be accompanied by a cover letter. If applicable, please provide an email address on the cover letter.
3. The author’s name should NOT appear anywhere on the manuscript itself.
4. NEW DEADLINE: All submissions should be postmarked no earlier than January 15th and no later than March 15th.
5. All manuscripts should be accompanied by a $20.00 entry fee. This fee initiates a one year subscription to The Pinch.
6. The Pinch will publish the first place story.
7. Winners will be notified in June 2008.
8. Contest results will be published in the Spring 2008 issue of The Pinch.
Poetry:

The Patrick W. Ryan Undergraduate Writing Awards Fiction ~ Poetry ~ Creative Nonfiction
First Prize: $250 & Publication in The Pinch
CONTEST RULES:
Entries must be postmarked between August 15th and November 1st. Entries should be typed, include a $10 entry fee (check or money order), a cover letter, and a letter from a professor on university letterhead certifying author’s undergraduate status. All entries
should be unpublished work by undergraduate writers. The author’s name should NOT appear anywhere on the manuscript itself. No simultaneous submissions. No manuscripts will be returned. Winners will be notified in January 2008 and published in the Fall 2008 issue of The Pinch.
All persons entering will receive one copy of the issue in which the winning selections are published.
The Pinch is generously supported by a grant from the Hohenberg Foundation and is distributed nationally by Ingram Periodicals.
