Do you write short stories? Would you like to win $1000 and be published in a literary magazine? Well, start polishing up your short fiction or turn that peculiar yet oddly compelling story idea into a skillful and eminently readable piece of writing and enter it into the Sixth Annual Nelligan Prize for Short Fiction contest, sponsored by Colorado Review, a nationally acclaimed literary magazine published three times a year at Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, CO. The winner will receive a $1000 honorarium and have his or her piece published in the 2009 Fall/Winter issue of Colorado Review.

Established in memory of Liza Nelligan, who received her master’s degree in literature from CSU’s Department of English in 1992, the Nelligan Prize seeks to honor Liza’s life, her passion for writing, and her love of fiction.

The length and theme are up to you, but the story must be previously unpublished.

Further guidelines are available by going to nelliganprize.colostate.edu, calling 970-491-5449, or e-mailing creview @colostate.edu. There is a $10 entry fee and the contest runs from January 15 – March 13, 2009. The winner will be announced in July 2009.
