The 3rd Annual Sorrento Wave Short Story Contest

RULES:
1. Read and follow all the rules! We don’t want to have to disqualify any stories.
2. All stories must use the following opening line:
“In that surreal moment when the car skidded off the road, my father’s warning echoed in my ears”
This can be a complete sentence, or you can add to it, but your story must start with the opening line provided.
3. Each entry must be accompanied by a $5 entry fee, with cheques payable Sorrento Wave Publications. You can enter as many times as you wish, but each entry must be accompanied by the entry fee.
4. All proceeds from this contest will go towards a local cause. This year the proceeds will be donated to the South Shuswap First Responders.
5. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

1st place – One copy of Beginnings, Middles & Ends by Nancy Kress. The winning entry will be printed in a future issue of the Sorrento Wave and on our website at http://sorrentowave.com

2nd place – One copy of Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss. The 2nd place entry will be published on our website at http://sorrentowave.com

6. Entries must be original, unpublished works of fiction, in any genre, submitted on plain 8½ x 11 inch white paper, double-spaced and typed.
7. Short stories should range from 500 words up to a maximum of 1500 words (approximately two to six typewritten pages).
8. Each entry should include a cover page with the author’s name, address, phone number, and email address (if applicable), as well as the title of your story. Do not write your name, address, or phone number on any other pages of the manuscript.
9. Mail entries to:

10. Entries must be postmarked on or before March 2, 2012.
11. This contest is open to all Canadian residents of any age.
12. Please keep a copy of your manuscript, as it will not be returned to you.
