West Jefferson, NCAshe County’s On the Same Page Literary Festival, now in its fifth year, is opening the Festival’s second writing competition. In association with the 2012 Festival, which will take place September 12 – 15 in Ashe County, NC, the Page Crafter’s Prize recognizes writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry with cash awards. Winning writers will have the opportunity to read their work during the On the Same Page Literary Festival.

The writer’s competition is designed to encourage and acknowledge emerging writers and to reinforce the annual theme of the On the Same Page Literary Festival, which for 2012 is “Journeys.”

Page Crafter’s Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place in fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Prize money totaling $1,200 will be presented: $250 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place in each category.

Deadline for submissions is July 13, 2012, (postmarked snail mail or email submissions) and winners will be notified by August 17, 2012.  Entries must be centered on the 2012 festival theme “Journeys.” There is a 1,000-word limitation for prose and no more than 50 lines of poetry. A non-refundable entry fee of $10 (U.S.) per submission is required. There is no limit to the number of entries per person.

For 2012, Page Crafter’s Prize winners also will be registered for a drawing for a partial scholarship of $250 to this year’s Table Rock Writers Workshop, with the recipient being chosen at random from among the nine winners.  This year’s workshop will be held September 17 – 21, at Wildacres Retreat in Little Switzerland, North Carolina.  The scholarship covers meals and a double room for this popular course for writers, with the balance for the 5-day and 4-night program being $350.  Please see the Table Rock website at tablerockwriters.com for information about the outstanding group of writers who conduct this event each year.

The Festival’s website, www.onthesamepagefestival.org, provides further details, including format requirements, for the blind-copy submission process. Only previously unpublished entries qualify. Authors retain all rights to submitted works. Winners need not be present to win, but are encouraged to attend the Festival and read their work.
