(Ojai, CA – May 29, 2012) – More than a dozen area authors, poets and spoken word artists will be reading excerpts from their recently published books or perennial best-sellers over two evenings in June -Saturdays June 23rd and 30th. Attendees of Well Red will listen intently to a different set of Open Mic performers and authors each evening before offering them a collective toast for their new and notable works. Well Red starts with Open Mic at 7pm with 5 featured performers, followed by scheduled authors 7:30-9pm at The Well, 214 W. Aliso Street in downtown Ojai. Tickets are $10 and will benefit Ojai WordFest. Well Red is one of more than 30 literary events held during the month long Ojai Summer Writers Workshops June 1-30.

“Well Red is a signature event offered every year during Ojai WordFest, our community literary festival in March,” said Sequoia Hamilton, co-founder of that festival and founder of Ojai Summer Writing Workshops. “It was so popular we decided to bring it back in June, offer it over a couple of weekends, and donate all of the proceeds.”

Notable among the authors are:
o Ojai’s Charlene Spretnak, author of many books over the last 30 years
o Former Laker player and Los Angeles sportscaster, Tommy Hawkins
o Childrens author of the Scary School series, Derek Taylor Kent
o Los Angeles poet Kim Dower
