Submission Guidelines:

Submissions are open year round.  Please submit one to two prose pieces or up to five poems at a time.
We are looking for flash and short fiction so pieces over 3000 words will not be considered. Simultaneous
submissions are accepted as long as they are marked as such and we are made aware of their publication
elsewhere. If you can, please take a look at a back issue before you submit. This will give you a very clear
idea of what we tend to publish. It also helps support the journal so that we may continue to read submissions.

Our online journal is published on a rolling schedule while the print journal is published in fall and
spring editions (September and March). All submitted work will be considered for both print and online
publication.  By submitting to our journal, you are giving us first North American serial rights. All other
rights revert to the author at publication. We ask that whenever work that first appeared in our pages is
reprinted, A Clean, Well-Lighted Place be given acknowledgment for the specific work(s) involved.  At this
time, payment for your contribution is in a complimentary copy of the journal.

A Clean, Well-Lighted Place has an average reading time of ten to thirty days. Please do not contact
us about your submission until 40 days have passed. Any questions about submissions can be directed to
