The University at Buffalo invites current high school students to showcase their writing talents in a FREE poetry contest. All are invited to attend, particularly aspiring poetry students and their teachers.

Winning poets will be invited to UB’s Center For The Arts for a celebration of their abilities at the Poetry Awards Ceremony and Poetry Workshop that will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008, when winning poems will be read and prizes will be awarded.

Michael Basinski will award the prizes and lead the Poetry Workshop. Dr. Basinski is the Curator of the Poetry Collection of the University at Buffalo Libraries. He has published 33 books of poetry and numerous related publications. He also performs his sound poems and poetric scores with BuffFluxus, his performance ensemble.

4 – Fourth Place Winners $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble or Chapters
Honorable Mentions will also be awarded

All winners will receive a book of poetry selected by Dr. Basinski

CONTEST RULES
Entries must be postmarked by the close of business Tuesday, February, 5, 2008

All contestants must be current high school students

Entry must be in English, twenty-five lines or fewer, and typed in a 10 or 12 point font on a single sheet

Only one poem per contestant may be submitted

Completed entry form (in PDF or MSWord format) must accompany poem

Judges regret that they cannot return poems or offer comments on individual entries
