Submission Guidelines

Send up to three poems (typed, no longer than 30 lines) to:

Include a cover letter with your name, address and a short biography (30 words maximum). Names should NOT appear on the poems. Poems must be typed and be no longer than 30 lines. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope (legal size) in order to receive the results of the contest.

The Heartland Review asks for a $5 contribution for up to three poems to support the contest and our journal. Please make checks out to theHeartland Review.

Prizes

1st Place – $200 and publication in the 2009 Summer issue
2nd Place – $100 and publication in the 2009 Summer issue
3rd Place – $75 and publication in the 2009 Summer issue

Winners will be announced in April and invited to read at the annual Morrison Gallery Poetry Series Poetry Month Celebration

Judge: Richard Taylor

Richard Taylor, Professor of English at Kentucky State University, is the author of two novels, five collections of poetry and several non-fiction books that deal primarily with Kentucky history. His sixth poetry collection, Rail-Splitter (based on the life of Abraham Lincoln) will be published by Larkspur Press in 2009.

Mr. Taylor has received two creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, and an Al Smith Award from the Kentucky Arts Council. He and his wife Lizz own Poor Richard’s Books in downtown Frankfort.
