Northwestern University’s alumni magazine, Northwestern, invites submissions of short fiction for its 2010 writing contest from Northwestern alumni and current students.
JUDGE: Stuart Dybek
Dybek, the first Distinguished Writer in Residence at Northwestern, is an award-winning author of fiction and poetry, including the books I Sailed with Magellan and The Coast of Chicago. He received a MacArthur Fellows “genius” grant in 2007.
FIRST PRIZE: $1,000 and publication in Northwestern magazine’s print edition and online; second prize: $500 and publication in Northwestern magazine online; third prize: $250 and publication in Northwestern magazine online.
SUBMISSIONS should not exceed 3,000 words of prose and must be postmarked by July 31, 2009. One entry per person.
MANUSCRIPTS should be original, unpublished, typed, printed on one side and double-spaced. Work should include the author’s name, address, phone number, e-mail address, graduating year and school at Northwestern. Manuscripts will not be returned, so please save a copy before sending.
NOTIFICATION of the status of your submission will be sent by e-mail only on or before Nov. 1, 2009. We cannot take phone calls or respond to questions about submissions.
