In honor of National Bad Poetry Day (August 18th), you could win up to $1000 toward your latest credit card bill.

Send us a poem related to your credit or debt woes, and you could win $1,000 towards your biggest credit card bill!

The “Rules”

While writing poetry should be a largely unregulated creative pursuit (artistic license and all that), there are a few things you should keep in mind if you want a shot at the prize money:

1. Your submission must be your own work of original poetry, and it must relate to credit or debt.
2. The contest will run for two weeks. We’re accepting submissions beginning today (August 18th) through Tuesday September 1st.
3. Submit your poem to editor@spendonlife.com. You can submit no more than one poem each day. Posting your poem in the Comments section does not enter you in the contest!
4. It’s all fair game: Funny, short, long, rhyming, free-verse, sonnet, haiku…even performance poetry if you want to send in a video! Bonus points for creativity! While this is a “bad” poetry contest, putting in some effort will help your entry stand apart from the crowd. And remember to title it!
5. By submitting your poem, you understand that we have republishing rights and will post your submission online (anonymously, unless you request otherwise). Our panel of judges will review the submissions, and the big winner will be announced on Wednesday, September 9th.
