Established in memory of the late James Knudsen, author, teacher and Creative Writing Workshop Director (2001-2003) at The University of New Orleans, “The James Knudsen Editor’s Prize for Fiction” aims to encourage and celebrate the work of emerging fiction writers.
Submissions must be previously unpublished work, no longer than 7500 words.
The top prize is $500 and publication.
All other entries will be considered for publication.
The reading fee is $15 and includes a one-year subscription to Bayou Magazine.

Bayou Magazine is a non-profit journal for the arts based at The University of New Orleans. We are a member of the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses, and every year Bayou nominates one of its published works for the Pushcart Prize, O.Henry Award and Best American Essays. Additionally, we publish the winner of the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Review One-Act Play Contest.
