23nd Annual NWU Poetry Contest
2006 Contest Guidelines

Adrienne Rich is the judge in this year’s NWU Local 7 Poetry Contest. Prizes:

First: $1,000
Second, Third and Honorable Mention will also be chosen

The First Prize winner will be published in Poetry Flash and the union’s newsletter. Second and Third Prize winners will be sent to Poetry Flash for consideration.

Guidelines

Submit any number of poems (single copies) on any subject matter. Ineligible submission categories include translations, published poems (including self-published) and unpublished award winners. Note that the NWU celebrates multi-cultural creativity. Entry deadline is November 30, 2006. Entries will not be returned. Winners will be announced in March 2007. Please follow these steps (any step not followed may disqualify your
submission).

1. Type poems double-spaced on 8.5 x 11″ white paper, no more than three pages per poem. Please put title and page number on each page. Please do NOT put your name on the poetry pages and do NOT staple pages together.

2. Put your name, address (plus phone and e-mail if you wish) on a separate cover sheet. Type the title(s) of the poems you submit. This page is kept by the Logger for later identification.

3. Enclose a check for $5.00 for EACH poem, payable to the National Writers Union.

4. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE), if you wish to be notified of winners and finalists.
