Prizes: £500, £250, £100 plus publication online.
1. UK residents can enter the competition either by post or online.
2. Non-UK residents can enter the competition online.
3. Non-UK residents are also welcome to enter the competition by post provided that the entry fee can be paid with a pounds sterling (UK) cheque.
4. The entry fee is £5 for one story, £7 for two stories. Three or more stories can be entered for £3 per story. A ‘tick-sheet’ critique can be purchased for an additional £3 per story.
5. Each entry must be in English and must be typed or printed legibly.
6. Each entry must be no longer than 500 words, excluding title and author’s name.
7. Each entry must be the original, unpublished work of the stated author. Entries may have appeared online in peer review sites, but should not have been published in any commercial print or online form.
8. We request only First Electronic Publication Rights. Full copyright is retained by the author.
9. Postal entries must be sent, with adequate postage attached, to: FlashStories.net, 7 Offley Street, Worcester WR3 8BH, UK. Cheques or postal orders payable to Dark Tales.
10. The current deadline for receipt of entries is 30 November 2011, and 30th April 2012.
11. Stories cannot be returned so please do not send original manuscripts.
12. Entries will be judged by Sean Jeffery, editor of Dark Tales, and one other judge, whose decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
13. The winner will receive £500, the runner-up £250 and third-placed £100, plus publication on www.FlashStories.net. Each winning entrant will be notified within approximately 8 weeks of the closing date. All critiques will be sent out as soon as possible after the result is announced.
14. Postal entries: Entries must be accompanied by the correct payment. An entry form can be used but is not compulsory.
15. Online entries: After making your payment via PayPal upload your story using the online form that should appear or email your story to stories@flashstories.net – preferably as a Word document – ensuring that the Subject for the email is FlashFiction.net Contest Entry.
16. No corrections will be accepted or refunds given.
17. Entries not complying with the competition rules will be disqualified.
