Prizes

The first prize in each category (fiction and poetry) is $1,000 and a package of books from some of Canada’s best publishers (including Coach House, House of Anansi, and Bookthug) valued at $700, plus publication in our Fall 2014 issue.

Description

The Third Annual Thomas Morton Prize is a yearly contest run by The Puritan Magazine which searches for the finest in groundbreaking fiction and poetry. This year, we are thrilled to announce that our judges will be MARGARET ATWOOD (poetry) and ZSUZSI GARTNER (fiction).

If you have previously unpublished fiction or poetry that you’d like to have considered, submissions can be made through our website at www.puritan-magazine.com/submissions/. Each submission is $15.

Full submission rules and formatting guidelines can be found on our website, but basic length rules are: Fiction – no longer than 8,000 words, double-spaced. Poetry – either four poems or four pages, whichever comes first.
